Santa Not the Only Person Working on the Holiday
Water and Sewer Department employees keep clean water flowing
As families across Forsyth County are tearing into gifts on Christmas morning, chances are they will not be thinking about one of the most valuable gifts we all receive every day – clean, safe drinking water. The water professionals working and on-call that morning, however, no doubt will.
Few people realize the job of producing drinking water goes on 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The dedicated water professionals who sacrifice time away from their families on Christmas and other holidays know the job they do is of a behind-the-scenes nature, but seeking the spotlight is not why they do it.
“We are proud of the men and women of our Water and Sewer Department and recognize the critical job they perform day in and day out,” Director of Water and Sewer Tim Perkins said. “Making sure our residents have safe drinking water is something that never takes a break, even on the holidays.”
Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department personnel will be on-call during the holidays to respond to emergencies such as large water line breaks and service outages. Staff at Forsyth County’s water treatment plants, which are operated by contractors, will also be working during the holidays.
The Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department serves 43,837 accounts, has one drinking water plant and five waste water plants, and has more than 900 miles of water lines and more than 400 miles of sewer lines.
