Commissioner Brian Tam was elected in 2004 to serve as District 2 commissioner for the 2005-2008 term. He was re-elected in 2008 for the 2009-2012 term.
Commissioner Tam has been a resident of Forsyth County for over 15 years and is a local restaurateur with over 25 years experience in the service industry. He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in management. Prior to joining the Board of Commissioners, Tam served on the board of the Forsyth Restaurant Group and made the presentation to spearhead the adult beverage sales initiative. He also served as co-chairman of the 2003 SPLOST campaign, presenting to voters a comprehensive plan for funding future projects with tax dollars.
His community service dates back many years and includes work with the Forsyth County Public School System, receiving both the Don Hendricks Memorial Award and the Apple Award for his participation in the Partners in Education program. He has served as a Partner in Education for Sharon Elementary, Coal Mountain Elementary, Sawnee Primary, Cumming Elementary and South Forsyth High School. In 2008, he was one of nine statewide residents to be awarded the Educational Patron Award from the Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals.
Commissioner Tam has served on the Board of Directors of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce and was recognized in 2003 with the Chamber Small Business of the Year award. A 2004 graduate of Leadership Forsyth, Commissioner Tam is well aware of the importance of giving back to the community. Since his graduation from Leadership Forsyth he has sponsored several individuals in the program, including his wife Kelly.
Commissioner Tam and his wife Kelly have three children and are members of the Johns Creek United Methodist Church.
