2018 Budget Update: Millage Rates Remain Unchanged
At their meeting July 20, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners adopted the millage rates that will fund a major portion of the county’s 2018 General Fund budget, Fire District and Bonds. Following three public hearings on the rates, the board voted to maintain the county’s millage rates with no change. The county’s millage rate of 8.036 is one of the lowest millage rates among metro Atlanta counties.   Forsyth County staff, Finance Committee and Board of Commissioners will continue preparing the county’s proposed 2018 budget, which is slated for adoption in November.

On Thursday, August 3, 2017 at 5 p.m., the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing in order to consider the possible commencement and/or extension until November 3, 2017 of a moratorium on the acceptance of applications for rezoning of property to the Master Planned District (MPD) zoning district. The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners has announced Eric Johnson as the sole finalist for the position of county manager.   Mr. Johnson would bring to the position 30 years of experience in county government, including 24 years in senior management roles. He currently serves as assistant county administrator for Hillsborough County, Florida, a position he has held since 2015. In April, Forsyth County government launched a new web page – www.forsythco.com/transportation – on the county website to allow citizens to quickly and easily locate details on county transportation projects including road widenings, intersection improvements and more. To further help citizens on their daily commutes and trip planning, the map now displays temporary road closures related to road projects – including roads that are currently closed or will be in the near future. Forsyth County Comprehensive Plan Adopted
On July 6, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners adopted the Forsyth County Comprehensive Plan 2017-2037, the result of a multi-month comprehensive plan update process, branded as Foster Forsyth.   Foster Forsyth was a full update initiative to the county’s Comprehensive Plan, focused on community elements such as housing, transportation, zoning and other land use matters, as well as economic development. The Comprehensive Plan is the umbrella policy document for the county’s future growth and development, which plays an important role in rezoning and development decisions.
