For the fourth consecutive year, Forsyth County has been named the healthiest county in both metro Atlanta and the entire state – No. 1 among Georgia’s 159 counties! The distinction came as part of the annual County Health Rankings & Roadmaps study initiated by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute. The rankings are based on county residents’ quality of life and length of life, and the report presents a series of other factors that help influence those criteria. Forsyth County Senior Services is hosting their fourteenth annual Forsyth Senior Expo on Saturday, April 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Forsyth Conference Center at Lanier Technical College, 3410 Ronald Reagan Boulevard.  The Forsyth Senior Expo includes free admission for attendees and is a popular event for seniors, their families, friends and caregivers. The event hosts vendors from home care, senior living, legal services and more. The start of daylight saving time is a good occasion to replace batteries   The Forsyth County Fire Department reminds citizens to change the batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when we spring forward an hour this Sunday, March 13.   Batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms should be changed every six to twelve months, making the start and end of daylight saving time a helpful twice-yearly reminder. After replacing batteries, the Forsyth County Fire Department suggests testing alarms at least once a month.   Residents should review the recommendations of the unit manufacturer regarding battery replacement. Important Information about Homestead Exemptions
Those who purchased a house during 2015, were living there on January 1, 2016, consider this their primary legal residence and are not claiming homestead at any other location are eligible for lower property taxes by filing for Homestead Exemption. Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB) encourages everyone to organize a team of volunteers or come as an individual to help remove litter from the community’s roadways as part of the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup on Saturday, March 19. Volunteers will meet at the Central Park Recreation Center at 9 a.m. to begin Forsyth County’s Great American Cleanup. Following a brief rally, volunteers will depart to clean up roadways in the community for two hours before returning to the Central Park Recreation Center for food and fun. Keep Forsyth County Beautiful Offering Free Adopt-A-Stream Workshops
Keep Forsyth County Beautiful (KFCB), a Keep America Beautiful Affiliate, is offering free Adopt-A-Stream Workshops to educate citizens on how to protect and monitor their local waterways. The workshops are suitable for ages third grade and up and cover two topics, Macroinvertebrate Assessment and Chemical/Bacterial Certification.
