PUBLIC NOTICE

 

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will hold a Special Called Meeting on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 @ 11:00 a.m. in the Commissioners' Large Conference Room, Suite 210 in the Forsyth County Administration Building located at 110 East Main Street, Cumming, Georgia 30040.

 

The purpose of the Special Called Meeting will be for discussion and consideration of the item(s) as outlined on the agenda and such other business as may properly come before the Board.

(1) Board consideration of the Forsyth County Tax Abatement/Economic Incentive Policy – Amos/Levent
James McCoy, CEO & President of the Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, made a presentation to the Board of Commissioners. Others also addressed the Board. Following discussion, it was the consensus of the Board to move forward with a Steering Committee and bring back recommendations to the Board within the next 30-60 days.

Amos – Member, Cindy Jones Mills – Member, Doug Derrer – County Manager, Tim Merritt – Deputy County Manager, Ken Jarrard – County Attorney and Cindy Henderson – Deputy Clerk.

Chairman Levent recognized a quorum and called the meeting to order.

ADOPTION OF AGENDA

There was a motion by Commissioner Semanson and a second by Commissioner Swope to adopt the agenda as presented. Motion carried unanimously.

UNDER ITEM FOR REVIEW AND DISCUSSION THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS WERE TAKEN:

(1) Board consideration of the Forsyth County Tax Abatement/Economic Incentive Policy

James McCoy, President & CEO of the Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce, along with others, made a presentation to the Board regarding the Forsyth County Tax Abatement/Economic Incentive Policy. The purpose of the presentation was to review data relating to the current economic climate; review current economic development tools, process and structure; review and discuss the competitive landscape; discuss available economic development tools and to determine the next steps. A copy of the presentation is on file in the minute folder.

The following persons also addressed the Board:

David Seago, Chairman, Forsyth County Development Authority
Robert Long, Vice President of Economic Development, Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce
Tony Peters, Vice President of Community Development, Cumming-Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce
Tammy Caudell, Regional Project Manager, Georgia Department of Economic Development
Lauren Lambiase, Georgia Power Economic Development, Metro East & Metro North Regions
Audie Patel, Georgia Power, Local Manager
Larry Duckworth, Member, Forsyth County Development Authority

Following the presentation, Mr. McCoy advised the Board that their recommendation is to establish a Steering Committee that can then bring back recommendations to the Board in the next 30 to 60 days. It was the consensus of the Board to move forward with the Steering Committee.

There was a motion by Commissioner Amos and a second by Commissioner Swope to adjourn. Motion carried unanimously.
