The Forsyth County Fire Department Swiftwater Rescue Team operates out of Station 15 on Buford Highway. Our team is comprised of three engine companies and a rescue. We cover river related rescues on the Chattahoochee River from Buford Dam to McGinnis Ferry Road. We have 23 technician level team members at this time, and hope to have about 10 to 15 more by the end of the year. We have more than 2,500 feet of rope and enough hardware to operate three separate rescue operations at once. Water on the river rises very quickly when released from the dam. When water is about to be released, a siren goes off warning citizens of the danger. Please heed this warning and exit immediately! For pre-recorded information regarding water release schedules at Buford Dam, contact the US Army Corp of Engineers at (770) 945-1466. Remember, if you are in the water anywhere from Buford Dam to GA Hwy 20, by law you MUST have a flotation device on at all times.
