In the year 2000 Forsyth County along with the City of Gainesville and Hall County completed a watershed assessment on our respective counties. This watershed assessment has won two awards, one from the Atlanta Metro Engineers and another from Region 4 of the EPA, for Engineering Excellence. This study has laid the groundwork for non-point source water quality issues that the County will have to address in order to receive permits for wastewater facilities and possibly in the future for increases in drinking water permits. At the present time the Engineering Division is responsible for the implementation of the watershed assessment recommendations, this includes changes to the current practices in erosion and sedimentation control along with future restoration projects in several of our studied basins. The EPD has required us to have an approved monitoring plan in place prior to the start up of our wastewater treatment facility. The Engineering Division has budgeted money for this monitoring which will be done on an annual basis along with biological monitoring on a rotating basis. The watershed assessment was done county-wide, except for the areas inside the City of Cumming’s service area. |
