Redistricting/Reapportionment (effective January 2012)

What is Redistricting / Reapportionment?
Congressional, State Senate, Georgia Representative, County Commission and County School Board District Lines are currently based on population and redrawn ('reapportioned') after each U.S. census.  As a result of the 2010 census, district lines for all of the above have changed in Forsyth County and voters will be notified of these changes (Voter Registration Precinct postcards to be mailed to all Forsyth County registered voters in mid to late-May 2012) so they can be aware of what district races will appear on their ballot in July and November.

How does Redistricting / Reapportionment affect the voters of Forsyth County?
These Redistricting changes take effect in January 2013.  The 2012 elections will determine who will represent you beginning January 2013.

For those interested in the official redistricting, it is as follows: Forsyth County now has a larger portion of the 9th Congressional District and the 27th Georgia Senate District.  We have had changes in the boundaries of the 9th and 24th Georgia House Districts and have added the 22nd, 25th and 26th GA House Districts.  The 23rd GA House District will no longer be a part of Forsyth County.  All five County Commission/School Board Distrct lines have been changed to give equal portions of residents to each district.

In Forsyth County we now vote by district for Commissioners and School Board Members.  Commission Districts 2, 4 and 5 and School Board Districts 3, 4 and 5 will be on the ballot this year.  The terms of Commission Districts 1 and 3 and School Board Districts 1 and 2 expire in 2014.

NOTE: Due to changes in Precincts (voting locations) and Districts (Redistricting) over the last year it is highly possible
