    What We Do...

Every year, thousands of children in Georgia are the victims of abuse and neglect, often at the hands of their own parents. Once involved in the court system, it can take a significant amount of time for the judicial process to play out. In the meantime, these children are removed from their homes and placed in foster care or with relatives. CASA Volunteers are trained to advocate on the child’s behalf for outcomes that will be in the child’s best interest.

    What Advocacy Involves...

Once a child is found to be deprived by the Juvenile Court, the judge will appoint a CASA Volunteer to provide recommendations to the Court. This involves meeting the individuals that can provide background information about the child, developing a trusting relationship with the child through frequent visits, assessing the educational, medical and/or psychological needs of the child, and providing all of this information through written reports to the Court. The CASA attends all court hearings and meetings, works in collaboration with other agencies involved with the child and family and visits with the child regularly. The goal of the CASA Volunteer is to ensure the child secures a safe and permanent home as quickly as possible.
