McGinnis Ferry Road Interchange at SR 400 & Widening

In 2007, Forsyth County employed a consultant to conduct a traffic study to establish the feasibility for a possible new interchange at SR 400 and McGinnis Ferry Road. The study was started in June 2007, and was authorized by GDOT’s Office of Planning under the GDOT project number CSHPP-0007-00(526), SR 400 at McGinnis Ferry Road.

On March 7, 2010, the GDOT Office of Planning approved the Interchange Feasibility Report, which allowed Forsyth County to authorize continued expenditures and to develop a full Interchange Justification Report.

In January of 2012, Forsyth County issued approval for their consultant to continue work on the Interchange Justification Report.  The complete report and Appendices are listed below.

McGinnis Ferry Road Widening-Public Information Open House Information

On January 10, 2017, Forsyth County held a Public Information Open House at the Forsyth Conference Center at Lanier Technical College on the proposed project to widen McGinnis Ferry Road.

The proposed project would widen McGinnis Ferry Road from Sargent Road to Union Hill Road/Ronald Reagan Boulevard - a distance of approximately 4.58 miles.  The proposed design includes two lanes in each direction with a 20-foot wide raised median, a 16 foot wide urban shoulder along the north with a 10-foot wide multi-use path and a 12-foot wide urban shoulder along the south with a 6-foot wide sidewalk.  Stage construction and traffic control devices will be utilized to maintain traffic during construction and may require temporary lane closures.  Forsyth County is overseeing the design of the widening project with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), the city of John's Creek and the city of Alpharetta providing review and comments on the design.

The Forsyth County Transportation Bond approved by voters in 2014 is providing $18.1 million for this project; GDOT has committed $10 million to the project.
